When encountering a self defense situation the aggressor is usually not standing straight up and down giving you a full target. Deadly force events usually happen fast, involve significant movement and will normally be in close quarters. When choosing a handgun as a part of a self defense plan, it is important to know how to use it confidently and effectively.
These seven-hour blocks of instruction teach advanced, shooting skills to prepare the average citizen to more effectively employ a handgun in stressful, self-defense situations. Taught in phases by NRA Certified Instructors, each class builds on the one before. As students improve their handgun skills, they are subjected to more stressful conditions and more demanding decision-making scenarios. These progressively rigorous and physically demanding courses are taught entirely on the outdoor shooting range. THESE ARE NOT NRA IMPROVED COURSES
Requirements
These are not beginners courses. The student must be able to handle the handgun safely and have good fundamental skills, as well as some basic physical agility. We will be shooting from standing, kneeling, and some ground positions, and there may be a small amount of running. We are on the range the entire class, and a significant amount of each class will be outdoors in the elements. Students with concerns regarding physical ability may take the course and sit out for some of the more strenuous skills.
Pre-class assignments: Please review the three links below and be familiar with the information before class. The more you have practiced the more skills you will learn in the actual class. These are the building blocks to more advanced skills.
